The rise and growth of BPO companies in the Philippines has positioned the country as both a global and regional hub of outsourcing activity.
Along with the country’s English-proficient, educated and professional workforce, the Philippines bested India in 2010, having the largest number of call center workers around the world. With the establishment of Information Technology Centers across the country, business processing outsourcing industry found its way in the island of Visayas.
A highly urbanized city, Iloilo, is shifting itself to become a smart city, and slowly making its way to having one of the most active BPO servicing activities in the country. It is also known to be the Center for Excellence in IT-OBM Operations duly recognized by the country’s Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and also with the country's IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP). In 2018, it was also included in the list of 100 Super Cities ready to shift to a more digital environment by a strategic advisory firm for global outsourcing and investments – Tholons International.
